Zero poverty

Around 45,000 people across Portugal were due to take part in the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty under the national initiative, Stand up Against Poverty, on Wednesday.

This initiative, developed by the Zero Poverty Campaign, united schools, companies and associations across the country, which organised an estimated 2,000 events to mark the day.

According to international data, one in six people in the world live in extreme poverty, without access to basic education and, in Portugal, one in five are poor, which is around two million people.
