Youth shot by taxi driver for refusing to pay €7.5 fare

A 17-year-old youth who refused to pay for his taxi fare was shot by the driver on January 2 in Albufeira.
The incident took place in Caliços when three men, including the youth, refused to pay for the €7.50 journey from Oura. The taxi driver is believed to have then drawn a firearm, shooting the boy in the abdomen.
It is reported that the youngster then escaped from the scene and was later checked by doctors at Albufeira health centre who confirmed that he had a bullet lodged in his body. He was then transferred to Faro Hospital to undergo an operation.
The victim is said to be in serious condition as the bullet perforated his intestines and bladder.
The taxi driver was later arrested and the case is being heard in court. He could be accused of attempted homicide.
