Your favourite Algarve beach

Following last week’s story about Algarve councils putting forward several beaches as candidates in the ‘Seven Wonders – Beaches of Portugal’ competition, the Algarve Resident set about finding out which were people’s favourites.

We asked our Facebook followers to tell us what was their Algarve beach of choice and why. Here are just some of the answers we received:

Debra Sadler Burkett: Zavial because it’s quieter with a nice restaurant, but the sea is cold.

Chilloutbar Alvor Algarve: Alvor because it’s clean and you have everything close.

Stuart Francis: Alvor … clean and spacious.

Lindsay McWilliams: Faro – clean, easy access (Vale do Lobo is the worst)

Riet van der Giesen: Armação de Pêra because it’s quiet and has a very good restaurant, Náutica

Karen McDonald: Alvor without a doubt!

Carlos Beltran Alves: Manta Rota, best sand, warmest water, no rocks falling and endless space.

Jayne Jackson: Santa Eulália … small and pretty

Carolyn Saunders: Vila Real de Santo António because it’s just a beautiful beach without lots of people or amusements.

Caroline Ottevaere-glorieux: Praia dos Tomates (Falésia) with Quebra Coco Bar: the most beautiful beach of Algarve for me! Love it.

“Algarve Best Walks”: Praia de Benagil, there is still some local fishing activity, which is nicely integrated with beach loving residents and tourists

Sarah Crake-jones: Alvor is my favourite, it stretches for about 3 miles and even in the height of summer there is still loads of space on it so you don’t feel like you are in a can of sardines (excuse the pun!) like you do in Spain.
