Arrangements are well under way for APAA’s 12th Annual Scruffts Dog of the Year Show to be held at the Fatacil showground, courtesy of Lagoa Mayor, on Sunday, September 18.
Scruffts is not just a dog show, it is a lovely day out for all the family. This year there will be a Craft Fair as well as trade stands representing local businesses, Veterinary Clinics, Pet Shops and Dog Groomers.
Refreshments will be provided by Anja’s Smorgasbord, The Fat Pig Company and APAA and there will be entertainment during the lunch hour.
The show is a light-hearted event providing you with an opportunity to show off your family pet, whether mixed breed or pedigree, and maybe even win the Dog of the Year Cup.
The winner of each class will receive a cup and rosette plus a bag of dog food supplied by the main sponsor, Skinners’ Pet Foods. Skinners use only the finest natural ingredients in their complete dry dog foods which are free from artificial additives, flavourings and preservatives.

The winner in each class will also receive a voucher for a photograph by the show’s official photographer, John Oliver.
Additionally rosettes and prizes will be presented to those placed 2nd and 3rd and 4th in classes 1 to 18.
The winning dog from each class will progress to the Dog of the Year (Mixed Breed) or Dog of the Year (Pedigree) class, as appropriate, and our judges will then award the top prize to the winning dog in each class.
The owners of the winning dogs will be presented with the prestigious Dog of the Year Cup and rosette, a bag of Skinners complete dog food and a voucher for a formal photograph by John Oliver.
Registration for classes will commence at 10am with the first class starting at 11.15am. The judging classes are as follows:

11.Dog and Young Handler Lookalike – new for 2011
12.Happiest Rescue Dog (Mixed Breed)
13.Best Female (Pedigree)
14.Prettiest Female (Mixed Breed)
15.Most Appealing Eyes (Mixed Breed)
16.Most Appealing Eyes (Pedigree)
17.Best Condition (Mixed Breed)

Scruffts is the most important event in APAA’s year. Proceeds from the show help to fund the association’s charitable efforts; providing food and veterinary treatment for animals across the Algarve, including spaying and neutering, and supporting people who take in and care for abandoned animals.
