Your chance to tread the boards

A new opportunity for performers of all talents will be taking place tonight (Friday) in Faro from 10pm as members of the public are asked to take part in an Open Stage performance.

Open Stage is the brain child of Dutch resident Eric Jaspers, who told the Algarve Resident: “After giving a few acting workshops, I realised that the Algarve has a lot of people with acting talent but very few opportunities to perform.”

To rectify the supply with the demand, Eric Jaspers has now set up Open Stage under the official name of Palco Aberto Talentos Algarvios.

“I went with the idea of Open Stage to the association of artists in Faro and they liked it a lot.  Now, we will be holding our first Open Stage at the Associação dos Artistas in the centre of Faro,” said Eric.

The Open Stage event will be part of the annual artists’ week held by the association before the official start of the Open Stage programme when sessions will then take place every other Friday at the association.

“The Open Stage is open to anyone with an act and of any talent level.  Stand up comedians, dancers, story tellers, singers, magicians, actors, clowns… basically anyone of any age and nationality who wants to take to the stage.  The only limitation is that acts can only be a maximum of 10 minutes long.”

Those who would rather be behind the scenes are also welcome to take part as Eric is also looking to mobilise as many people who are interested in the theatre and performing  as possible in the Algarve.
