Youngsters dance for Portugal

Lagos dance school, Escola de Dança de Lagos, will represent Portugal in the Dance World Cup competition which will take place during the first week of July in Brighton, UK, when 18,000 dancers from 30 different countries will participate.

The dancers, aged eight and nine, from the Associação de Dança de Lagos will compete in a traditional folklore category. They qualified for the final in the UK after winning a dancing competion ‘Dançarte’ in Faro in March this year.

Meanwhile, on June 10 the dance school held its fundraising garden party to support those travelling to Brighton.

The party was set in the beautiful gardens generously loaned for the day by Ted and Mandi Keen. The young musicians played their classical tunes on the lawn, whilst Luís Guerreiro, local dog trainer, demonstrated his dogs and their obedience skills in the orchard. Ros Hodges, a local artist, exhibited some of her work. Beauticians from Boavista performed manicures and massages.

A cold buffet was prepared by the parents, which was accompanied by wines and canopies served and donated by Baptista’s Supermarket and French chef Serge.

The party was concluded with a dance show staged and performed by Escola de Dança de Lagos.

The afternoon was hailed a success by organisers, who announced a total of €2,000 raised. “Many thanks to all our guests for supporting us, to Mandi and Ted Keen, Baptista’s, Boavista Golf & Leisure Resort, Prime Drinks, Pingo Doce and all those who generously donated prizes to the raffle,” said the organisers.
