Police have arrested a 37-year-old man suspected of strangling his girlfriend in their Faro home and keeping her body hidden for almost 24 hours before threatening to kill himself by jumping from the apartment’s balcony.
This latest horror story began on Tuesday (September 27) when the couple fought over “household chores”, writes national tabloid Correio da Manhã, claiming the man has a history of domestic violence and is suspected of strangling 21-year-old Regina Silva with his “hands and electrical wire”.
He is believed to have kept Regina Silva’s body in the apartment until Wednesday when he threatened to jump from the apartment’s balcony.
PSP police were initially alerted by the couple’s landlord who hadn’t seen the girl for days and apparently noticed blood on the floor, adds Jornal de Notícias.
Arriving at the moment Silva was threatening to jump, they managed to talk him out of it and then arrested him, while the PJ has now mounted an investigation.
CM claims Silva was arrested “around a year ago” when Regina accused him of “hitting and raping her”. The two, however, continued their relationship.
According to JN, the couple was from Beja but moved to Faro around a year ago.
