Accident || Twenty-one year old Welton Sousa – born in Brazil but resident in Portimão – had only hours before bought his Fiat Punto when he was killed in a tragic head-on collision on the IC1 near Grândola in the early hours of Saturday morning.
As police investigate, local reports point to Sousa’s new car crossing the road into the path of an oncoming truck.
The young man was said to be on his way home to the Algarve, having only just purchased his new car.
The car was “totally destroyed” in the accident which was the first fatal crash this year in that particular spot.
According to Correio da Manhã, the area is known as a danger-area, and has already witnessed “several serious accidents”.
