Young people can be adopted in Portugal up to age of 18

The extension of the age at which young people can still be legally adopted came into effect today, meaning that now teens up to the age of 18 qualify. Previously, the limit for adoptions was 15, meaning that adolescents who needed individual attention were left in ‘limbo’, unable to get the chance of a home, between the ages of 16-18. The new law also reduces the minimum age at which a citizen can adopt, from 30 to 25, opening the way to older siblings/ cousins/ relatives being able to keep families together more easily.
