Young pastry chef in hit-and-run horror near Seixal

A family has launched a desperate appeal for witnesses to the hit-and-run death of a young pastry chef.
Twenty-two-year-old João Gomes was hit at high speed early on Saturday morning as he left a bus stop on the EN10 just outside Fogueteiro, Seixal.
The dark blue car that hit him sent the young man flying “at least 20 metres”. He died later in Lisbon’s Hospital de S. José.
The case is in the hands of Seixal PSP who are reported to be still trying to trace the driver of the dark blue car.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen anything or who may have any information to help us and the PSP,” João’s sister Susana told reporters. “Any information could help find this driver who ran over João and fled the scene without offering any kind of help.”
João Gomes was on his way to work when the accident happened at around 7.40am.
According to newspaper reports, the bus stop where he alighted is known to be at a “dangerous” point in the road network and has already been the subject of various meetings in the local town hall.
