IF YOU wanted to hear the best of the young musical talent from German schools of the Iberian Peninsular, then the German School of Lisbon was the place to be recently. Around 120 musicians from Lisbon, Barcelona, Bilbao, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Madrid, Marbella, Porto, San Sebastian, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Toulouse and Valencia had the chance to compete in the Iberian finals at the school in Lisbon. The winners will then go on to compete in the Federal Republic Finals of German Schools in Germany later in the year.
The Resident was invited to the preliminary heats and later to the final concert. The event went like clockwork and the standard of music from the competitors was a delight to listen to. The final evening’s concert, with a mixture of all the winners on different instruments, was enchanting. We heard the beautiful voices of first Regina Hämmerle and then Leonor Amaral, both from Lisbon.
The Resident caught up with the musicians on a day trip to Sintra the following day, and they were all of one voice: “We love Portugal!” The German School of Lisbon wishes to thank the families who hosted children from the other schools.
