Young company hopes to reduce traffic accidents with pioneering device

Innovation || It is a new company made up of young entrepreneurs in Porto. The trio have come up with a driving mirror that detects tiredness and mood swings by analysing facial features.
As the driver concentrates on the road, the HealthyDrive mirror will be concentrated on his or her perceived state of mind. If things look dodgy, the mirror will sound an alarm, and the driver will swiftly be brought back to full concentration.
HealthyRoad, the name of the young company, hopes to be marketing its device by the end of the year.
Público’s P3 website says it will cost around €300 and be aimed at drivers of professional vehicles.
Filipe Oliveira, 31, one of HealthyDrive’s pioneers, explains that “tiredness and sleep are responsible for 23% of traffic accidents”.
His company’s device will offer an affordable solution to the problem, and will able to be fitted “without the need for any specialist help”.
