Tumbling is a form of gymnastics performed without any specialised equipment
Loulé Municipal Council has congratulated local 12-year-old gymnast Rita Cardoso for winning a gold medal at the 2023 Trampoline & Tumbling World Championships, held in Birmingham, UK between November 9-12.
“At the age of 12, the gymnast who has always represented Ginástica Clube de Loulé won the title, having reached the podium in the 11-12 age category,” the council said in a statement.
“In her first World Championship, Rita Cardoso managed to add this gold medal to the national champion title, among other trophies that are already part of her resumé,” it added, highlighting the “excellent work that Ginástica Clube de Loulé has been developing, particularly under the coaching of Verónica Paulo.”
The young athlete’s feat was also praised by Loulé Mayor, Vítor Aleixo.
“We are very proud to have such prodigious young talents in our territory, especially in the world of sports, like Rita Cardoso. With this performance, not only the colours of the national flag but also the colours of the Municipality of Loulé have gained international visibility. On behalf of the Loulé Municipality, my heartfelt thanks,” the mayor said.
