Portuguese rock band Xutos e Pontapés, still mourning the death of founding member and guitarist Zé Pedro, will be performing in Albufeira on New Year’s Eve from midnight.
The promoter of the event confirmed that the group wants to “honour its commitment”.
But whether the band will continue performing following the show remains to be seen, which means the Albufeira concert could be the band’s last show.
Xutos e Pontapés is the most popular rock band in Portugal and boasts an impressive 39-year career. The group is always one of the most sought-after musical acts for events and festivals around the country but was struck by tragedy on November 30 when guitarist Zé Pedro died after years suffering from liver disease.
Portuguese pop star Agir is the other headlining performer for Albufeira’s New Year’s Eve party. His performance starts at 10.30pm.
The town’s five-day programme will also include a medieval fair, a circus show along the town’s streets, a stand-up comedy festival and the usual fireworks display.
