BETWEEN May 4 and 8, Praia da Rocha, for the very first time, will be the stage for the opening regatta of the Windsurfing Euro-Cup, organised by Clube Overpower with sponsorship from Portimão Câmara.

The best windsurfers in the world will be in action over five days, demonstrating their skill in this, the first big international Racing and Slalom event of the year (Formula Windsurfing). With the staging of this event, Portimão enters the most important circuit on the continent, with a competition where the best competitors in the world will collect points for the sport’s main rankings.

In total, 31 competitors from 15 countries are already confirmed as taking part. Among them is the current World Formula Windsurfing and Fun Board Champion, Wojtek Brzozowski, from Poland and Australian, Steve Allen, the 2003 Formula Windsurfing World Champion. Portugal will be represented by national Formula Windsurfing champion, Miguel Martinho, an athlete who chooses Praia da Rocha for his daily training sessions.

The Portimão Windsurfing Euro-Cup offers a prizemoney totalling 20.000 euros, divided in equal parts between the two disciplines, Racing (Formula Windsurfing) and Slalom. However, Formula Windsurfing is actually the format for most competitors in the world while Slalom is a new discipline which is being presented for the first time in Portugal in this competition.
