Four casks of Portugal’s sweet Moscatel wine from producers José Maria da Fonseca have set off on a round the world sea voyage aboard the Escola Sagres ship.
During the 11-month journey, the casks will travel to far flung places including Brazil, India and China. According to the wine producers, it is hoped the Moscatel will develop unique qualities during the journey and have improved in flavour upon its return to Portugal in December.
António Soares Franco, from José Maria da Fonseca, said: “With the thermal shocks suffered during the trip, we know that the Moscatel will be darker and have completely different characteristics to the wine that stayed in Portugal.”
