Biologist David Santos is taking participants on a guided birdwatching walk and teaching an observation course on Saturday, May 13.
Taking place every second Saturday of May and October, this year, World Migratory Bird Day will be marked in Lagoa with a diversified programme, announced the municipality.
The event aims to highlight the need to preserve birds and their habitat, as well as increase global awareness of the threats that affect them.
In May, in the Northern Hemisphere, this day coincides with spring and with the reproduction of birds. It is an exciting time, as watchers can observe the hustle and bustle of birds feeding their young.
To share and observe this activity and raise awareness of the dangers that birds face, the municipality of Lagoa will promote two activities with biologist David Santos on Saturday, May 13:
08h45 to 13h15 – Birdwatching walk “Coastal Birds” (4 km), meeting point at the Auditorio Carlos do Carmo.
Registration: https://forms.gle/6uQ1ZucGGKn7vMUT8
14:30 to 18:30 – Theoretical-practical course on Bird Watching at the Municipal Park of Sítio das Fontes.
Registration: https://forms.gle/mvkyVcM7Vq416SkL6
Both activities intend to share the different types of birds, some mating or courtship behaviours, such as singing, distinctive characteristics and threats, as well as an introduction to birdwatching techniques.
