Portuguese national Laura Melo arrived in Venezuela about a year ago and today represents the World Food Programme (WFP) in the country, a UN agency that guarantees food to 450,000 children in need. “As WFP here in Venezuela, we essentially continue to work and support children through school (by feeding them). We are working in eight states of the country, supporting around 450,000 people monthly, essentially children, but also teachers and all the staff that are in the schools we work with,” she told Lusa news agency, stressing that Venezuela is “a wonderful country, with wonderful people, with incredible potential. Our job is essentially to support that potential”, she said.
