Benny Golson, Dena DeRose, Peter Cincotti and Ed Motta have been confirmed as the high-profile musical guests of this year’s Algarve Jazz Gourmet Moments Festival, which will take place in Lagos between Friday, May 24 and Sunday, May 26.
The festival will return for its third edition, once again combining smooth jazz music and delicious Algarve food into one unique event.
Legendary American saxophone player Benny Golson will be the first to take the stage of Lagos’ cultural centre on May 24. According to organisers, Benny Golson is a “true jazz legend, a venerable tenor, a storyteller, and one of the main jazz composers in the world who was always ahead of his time”.
He has written over 300 songs including the iconic ‘Whisper Not’ and ‘I Remember Clifford’ and has performed alongside some of the most talented and acclaimed jazz musicians in the world such as Dizzy Gillespie and Art Blakey.
Performing alongside him and the Algarve Jazz Orchestra will be Grammy-nominated singer and pianist Dena DeRose, considered to be “one of the best pianists in the world of her generation”.
On May 25, New York’s very own Peter Cincotti will be presenting his latest album ‘Long Way From Home’ which fuses several music genres from pop, rock and blues to hip hop, funk and blues.
As organisers point out, Cincotti has performed at some of the most iconic venues around the world such as Carnegie Hall in New York to the Olympia in Paris and has collaborated with artists such as Andre Bocelli and David Guetta. He also contributed to the soundtrack of the hugely successful super-hero film ‘Spiderman 2’.
The festival will come to a close with a performance by Brazilian musician and composer Ed Motta, who has already released 13 albums in his long-running and successful career. He has experimented in multiple genres such as funk, soul disco, bossa nova, reggae and, of course, jazz.
Tickets cost €12 for each concert and can be purchased online at Ticketline or at the cultural centre’s ticket office. More information about the event’s gastronomic side is due to be announced soon.
