Bamboo animal charity is proud to announce its first fund-raising dinner “for years”, with a class act by world famous illusionist Philippart.
Anyone who has lived in the Algarve for any length of time will have heard of the magical maestro, but they may not have had the opportunity to see one of his shows ‘close up’.
This is now promised on February 12 at Picanhas Grill, just outside Praia da Luz on the way to Quatro Estradas.
It’s a pre-Valentine bid to boost Bamboo’s coffers now that it has taken on even more donkeys.
As founder Nana Van der Velden explained, the charity with its ‘home-from-home’ refuge in Raposeira, near Vila do Bispo, let fund-raising ‘go’ somewhat during the worst of the financial crisis.
“People simply didn’t have the money to spare”, she said.
But the overheads continue – multiplying rapidly since Bamboo took in five donkeys found ‘starving to death’ in Saboia (in the Alentejo) last year (click here).
Thus the plan to team up with animal lover and local resident Philippart, who with partner Anja has had an extraordinary career playing to packed audiences all over the world.
The dinner, costing €20 for adults, €10 for children, promises a “fantastic show”, says Nana, plus buffet with dessert and coffee.
A soft drink, beer or half litre of wine is included in the price, and “all money raised will go to the animals”, of which there are currently 25 dogs and 14 donkeys.
The Bamboo Animal charity is always looking out for volunteers to help with the day-to-day routine of walking, caring and talking to its four-legged charges which love going for walks – no leads needed as the property is fully-fenced and donkeys come too.
Anyone with a morning to spare should get in touch, calling Nana on 968858924.
