World Day of Prayer

World Day of Prayer for the Algarve

This year, Christ The King Anglican Church Algarve will be hosting the World Day of Prayer for all the churches of the Algarve.

The service will be held at 12:00 on Friday, March 3 in The Church in the Park, Jardim das Comunidades, Almancil.

“The origins of the World Day of Prayer date back to the 19th century when Christian women initiated a variety of cooperative activities in support of women’s involvement in mission, at home and abroad. It is from such roots as these that World Day of Prayer has taken its present shape to become a worldwide women-led global ecumenical movement of Informed Prayer and Prayerful Action,” explains CTK church.

Today, the World Day of Prayer is celebrated in over 120 countries.

On Friday, March 3, World Day of Prayer services will begin in Samoa and travel around the world – through Asia, Africa, Middle East, Europe and Americas before finishing in American Samoa some 38 hours later.

Each year, the service is prepared and written by a different country and, in 2023, it is the turn of the women of Taiwan. They have chosen the theme “I have heard about your faith”.

The Island of Taiwan is rich in natural resources and ethnically diverse, and the service they have developed shares in the issues they face, both geographically, politically, socially and their hopes for the future.

Marina Hardy, co-ordinator of the World Day of Prayer for Christ The King, says: “We are delighted to be invited to act as host for this service. Please join us, it is open to all faiths and all peoples and our beautiful setting right next to the lake in the park is a perfect spot for prayer and quiet reflection. We all look forward to welcoming you.”
