WORLD AIDS day on Monday, December 1 aimed to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS on a national and international level as a new report by the World Health Organisation (WHO) revealed Portugal to be one of the countries in Europe with the highest infection rate.
Portugal, Estonia, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova recorded the highest rates of HIV infection in Europe with 40 per cent of the cases being transmitted through sexual contact between heterosexuals.
