Health Minister Ana Jorge hopes to see work on the region’s new Hospital Central do Algarve start early next year.
She told the press this week: “The new hospital will be very positive for the region and its construction will be cost effective due to a public-private partnership.”
Ana Jorge also hopes that the economic crisis won’t affect construction of the new hospital, which will be located near the Algarve Stadium, will have 549 beds, 46 consultation rooms and 10 surgical rooms.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the PSD-Algarve political party told the Algarve Resident: “We regret that the Health Minister has not justified the successive changes of the timetable for the start of the construction works. In 2007, the Government promised to begin the works in 2009 and we are still waiting.”
