Helping animals, humans and the environment, one purchase at a time
WOOFF stands for ‘Worn Only Once Furniture and Fashion’, and it is a howl for innovative work to further the sustainability of animal, human and environmental welfare in the Algarve.
Founded by animal welfare charity Animal Rescue Algarve (ARA), the WOOFF charity shops can be found in two locations, Almancil and Loulé. The charity shops have been increasingly important in supporting the lifesaving work of ARA, and so far, counts on the invaluable help of 42 unpaid volunteers.
Says ARA: “This pioneer concept in the Algarve sees that second-hand, high-quality products are given a new life. With a philosophy built around addressing the pressing issues of environmental sustainability, social equality, and animal rescue, WOOFF takes pride in the amount of real change afforded with each purchase.
“By perpetuating the lifespan of high-quality and underused items, WOOFF contributes to slowing down the negative environmental impact of ‘fast-fashion and furniture’, which have an increasingly devastating impact on the planet.
“Also, accessible prices on otherwise exclusive items means everyone is able to acquire high-end goods.”
On the animal welfare front, WOOFF’s revenues are directly invested into ARA’s lifesaving and urgent work, meaning that every euro generated with each purchase goes directly to feed, treat, care, home, and rescue animals who fell victim to the most tragic stories of violence, negligence or abuse.
WOOFF is always looking for new ways to increase the reach and impact of their work, and this is how you can help:
- Donate your time: up to three hours a week, at the Loulé or Almancil shops.
- Donate your unwanted high-quality goods.
- Shop at the shops: before heading out to a mainstream outlet, stop by at one of WOOFF’s locations. You will be contributing to animal welfare, in an environmentally sustainable manner, while empowering local communities.
