PSP police are hunting a sex attacker believed to have attacked at least two women in the Faro/Olhão area in the early hours of last Friday.
In both cases, the victims managed to escape, though one required hospital assistance as a result of her injuries.
The first incident took place after midnight in Faro’s Rua Olímpio Passos Valente.
The man grabbed a 29-year-old woman walking alone, covering her mouth and “groping her several times”, reports tabloid Correio da Manhã.
He apparently tried to undress the woman, who managed to scream for help. This saw her thrown to the ground as the man ran off.
The second attack took place a couple of hours later on Rua Vasco da Gama in nearby Olhão.
The 25-year-old victim was apparently followed by a man on a bicycle.
CM says she tried to resist as he “groped her buttocks”, which led him to punch her “violently” in the face and throw her to the ground.
Passers-by alerted to the young woman’s screams tried chasing the man – by this time back on his bicycle and pedalling fast.
It is not certain that the two attacks were by the same man, though descriptions tally. He has been described as “very dark skinned, aged between 25 and 30, and around 1.70m tall”.
According to the second victim, the man was wearing a blue sweatshirt.
