Woman loses both legs in horrific train accident

A 51-year-old woman has lost both her legs as a result of a freak accident as she tried to leave a moving train, carrying her grandchild.

“The woman became disoriented and wanted to get off the train as it started to leave the station”, a GNR source has explained.

“She became trapped between the platform and the train, and her legs were cut off”.

Her two-year-old grandchild was mercifully unharmed but has received psychological support following the ordeal, adds Diário de Notícias.

The horror took place on Monday evening at Vimieiro station in Santa Comba Dão.

The woman was transported to Coimbra hospital by helicopter and her daughter has since said that her mother’s condition there is “stable”.

Railway authority CP is described as “investigating the case”.
