THE HARD work of the Wolf Valley Charity Fund committee members was rewarded when their annual charity day, held recently at Vale do Lobo, raised more than 54,000 euros to help the Associação Social e Cultural de Almancil (ASCA), a community centre in Almancil.
The Wolf Valley Charity will donate bedroom furniture and equipment for the new ASCA residential care home, which provides for elderly people when they become unable to look after themselves.
The money was raised by generous donations from Vale do Lobo property owners, linked operations, staff, local companies and many other friends.
The annual event, now in its sixth year, was a success and included friendly golf competitions on the Royal and Ocean golf courses, a putting contest, a longest drive competition, a sold-out tombola, a book stall and the sale of delicious home-made cakes.
Kiss FM was broadcast live from Vale do Lobo and a selection of memorabilia items were auctioned on air – a football signed by Alan Shearer from Newcastle United fetched 250 euros and a shirt, also signed by the same player, was sold for 750 euros. The day ended with the golf competition prize-giving, followed by a gala dinner and auction of a large selection of donated items.
Bobby Longmuir, chairman of the Wolf Valley Charity Fund, was delighted with the result: “The committee would like to thank everyone who contributed to making the day so successful. We hope to see even more people joining on June 10 next year!”
Since the Charity’s inauguration in 1999, the Wolf Valley Charity Fund has raised more than 400,000 euros to support a number of local causes. If you would like to help the charity, contact Bobby Longmuir on 289 398137, Fax 289 398714 or email: [email protected]
