Wolf attacks in Alto Tâmega e Barroso prompt farmers’ protest

Farmers in the Alto Tâmega e Barroso region are protesting today over the lack of support to cover the rising costs of attacks on livestock by wolves. It is not that they are against wolves, they stress. They understand the Iberian Wolf is a species that needs preservation – but not at the cost of their animals. In the last six months, the region has registered “more than 200 attacks”. Sheep, goats, calves, dogs and even donkeys have been savaged. Producers want financial compensation. Their protest today is being held in the municipality of Boticas.
