Over 143 photographs were submitted
Lagos Council has announced the winners of the ‘Lagos Cidade’ photography competition, which was organised to celebrate its 450th anniversary since being granted ‘city’ status.
Photographers were challenged to capture “permanent or transient aspects” of the town, its landscape, its historic or cultural heritage and its light and colour.”
Jorge Manuel Costa de Melo won first prize with a photograph entitled ‘Partida’ (Departure), while Francisco Manuel das Neves Martins finished second with ‘O Protetor’ (The Protector) and António Manuel Conde Falcão finished third with ‘Actividade Abençoada’ (Blessed Activity). The photographers will receive €400, €300, and €200 respectively.
The jury featured members of the local council and photographers, who had to evaluate 143 photographs submitted by 51 photographers.
The winning photos will be awarded at the 34th edition of the Arte Doce sweets fair on July 30 at 6.15pm.
