Algarve resident John Greenwood has won the Oceânico Algarve Crown Green Open 2010 and now qualifies for the upcoming Oceânico Bowls Masters Portugal 2010 from October 9 to 16.
The event was held at the Amendoeira Golf Resort near Silves on the September 18.
The competition commenced with a round robin format, where each bowler played six games to produce the two finalists, the first being John Greenwood, who won all of his round robin games, and Peter Wrigley, who went through with a 4-2 aggregate.
John, winner of the same tournament in 2009, won 21-12 in the final.
“It was a great day, and was a good lead up to our main competition, the Oceânico Bowls Masters Portugal 2010”, said Ron Price, Amendoeira Sports Club manager, who lent support to the competition by taking part, but as a very new bowler didn’t manage to win any of his games.
The Oceânico Bowls Masters Portugal 2010 will be televised by Sky Sports as seven individual one hour shows, covering the quarter finals down to the final.
In addition to the winner of the Oceânico Crown Green Cup, 31 other top crown green bowlers will be qualifying for the event from the UK by winning county championships or open tournaments.
The overall winner of this competition will take home prize money of 2,000 Euros and all other bowlers are invited to join the event for only 95 Euros, which covers the green fees, welcome reception drink and the final prize giving gala dinner on Friday, October 15 at the Amendoeira Clubhouse.
