The Algarve chapter of the Rotarians’ Wine Appreciation Fellowship is sponsoring a wine and food pairing event on Friday, October 4 in Albufeira to benefit the multi-national campaign End Polio Now.
The fundraising dinner featuring the award-winning wines of Quinta do Pinto will take place at Restaurante/Garrafeira Veneza in Mem Moniz, north of Albufeira, at 8pm. The owner of Quinta do Pinto is himself a polio survivor and has a personal interest in the success of this project.
A selection of wines will be presented by Rita Cardoso Pinto, daughter of the producer, and paired with appropriate food.
The price for the evening is €35 per person, with €10 of the fee going directly to End Polio Now.
The wines tasted will be available for purchase.
A joint programme of the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, Rotary International and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, End Polio Now represents the final push to wipe out the crippling disease in Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan, the few remaining countries where the wild virus remains active.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation recently announced a special matching programme whereby all monies raised by Rotary will be trebled so your €10 contribution quickly becomes €30, enough for more than 65 vaccinations. Also see news brief on page 16.
