This wine was up for tasting at the Apolónia Lagoa store last weekend along with others from the same producer and it was the definite standout of the line-up for me.
Quinta de Ventozelo is a modern and charming wine estate in the middle of the Douro region with what looks like a fabulous hotel overlooking the river and the vineyards.
This white is made from the Viosinho grape, a variety that is usually used in blends and always in the mix of white Port wines, but only a handful of producers make a varietal from it. This may be because the wine it usually produces is not of great acidity.
What we have here is a wine of bright pale colour and full of freshness. Citric and some tropical fruit notes such as kiwi come to the front, with beautifully balanced fruit and acidity in the mouth. A perfect white to enjoy with grilled fish and seafood. €13.99 at Apolónia.
