An enthusiastic group of 40 members of the Algarve Wine Society (AWS) took a day trip to the Alentejo on September 16 to visit the Herdade da Mingorra winery near Trindade.
The estate comprises 1,400 hectares, of which 135 hectares are planted with vines. Almost half the plantings are as much as 30 years old and make Mingorra one of the oldest vineyards registered in the Alentejo.
Their best known names are Alfaraz, Alfaraz Reserva, Terras d’Uva, Uvas Castas and the top of the line Vinhas da Iras.
Up and coming events on the AWS calendar include a trip to Toledo and the La Mancha wine region on September 29 to October 2 and a tasting of the Douro wines of Quinta de la Rosa on October 21 at the Quinta dos Poetas near Estoi.
On November 28, the AWS will be spending an evening with Richard Mayson and on December 16 the Society’s traditional Christmas lunch.
