Members of the Algarve Wine Society attended an Italian evening hosted by Roberto del Gizzo, head of La Fattoria, a Lisbon importer of wines from Italy, and two Algarve-based Italian restaurants, at the Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo do Algarve (EHTA) in Faro on March 26.
The school’s director, João Fernandes, and technical coordinator, Manuel Serra, as well as a number of students ensured the group had a memorable evening.
Roberto del Gizzo made a presentation of The Italian World of Wine, which was followed by a tasting of five wines from four different wineries in Piemonte, Toscana and Sicilia.
Wines tasted on the night included Soave Classico DOC 2008 from the Tedeschi winery (with starter), Italy’s finest Barolo Riserva DOCG 2003 from Beni di Batasiolo in Piemonte (with main course), Moscato d’Asti DOCG 2007 (with dessert) and grappa stravecchia 18 Lune from the Marzadro distillery in Trento.
Participating restaurants were Ristorante Grissino in Almancil and Ristorante Vecchia Milano in Lagos.
