The Algarve Wine Society held its annual general meeting followed by a gala dinner and dance at Vila Vita Parc in Porches on February 24.
Anne Green, president of the board, summarised the 10 events of 2015 which included several wine tasting events, the traditional gala black-tie dinner dance, a summer party, a Christmas lunch, a Michelin-starred gourmet dinner, and trips to the Alentejo and Seville.
For 2016, another 10 events are planned, including a visit to Cortes de Cima on March 23, and a gourmet dinner at Florian Restaurant in Quinta do Lago on April 19. Two trips to the Dão are planned for later in the year.
Dinner commenced with pan-fried scallops with a purée of cauliflower and vanilla marinated citrus-fruit fillets, and then followed cream of asparagus soup with aromatic croutons and Pata Negra.
The main course was carré of lamb baked in the oven with gratin potatoes and vegetable mélange. A cheese plate was next with mousse of three chocolates and raspberry sorbet finishing a wonderful meal.
The wines accompanying the meal were familiar to those who attended the tasting of Rioja wines in Seville. The white was the Sierra Cantabria Organza and the red was the Sierra Cantabria Colección Privada 2007. Taylors LBV port accompanied the sweet course.
The Society now has 235 members. For more information, visit www.algarvewinesociety.com
