Windsurfing festival returns to Sagres

THE FINAL stage of the Sagres Windsurf Festival is taking place at Praia do Martinhal, in Vila do Bispo, from August 12 to 15. The event is open to all windsurfers, whatever their level of experience in the world of windsurfing.

Over 200 competitors and around 5,000 spectators are expected over the four days. The event is very popular among the Spanish and is likely to attract many to the Algarve region.

Three different competitions will be taking place: the Slalom Classic Race, the velocity-based Dri Speed Attack and the Long Distance Race, which covers a nine-mile stretch from Praia do Martinhal to Praia do Tonel (Sagres).

Various events will be taking place on the beach, including concerts, windsurf and kitesurf clinics, equipment fairs, blowkarting and nocturnal windkarting.

The first stage of the festival took place over the weekend of July 29 and 30 at Praia de Alvor.
