Wind power

The largest wind farm in southern Portugal, which has been operational for more than one year in the county of Almodôvar, in the Alentejo region, has already produced enough energy to supply the needs of 34,000 inhabitants.

A total of 71 Gigawatt hours of energy has been produced so far by the wind farm, which has 13 turbines installed in an area of 94 hectares of land.

Lobo Gonçalves, spokesman for Enernova, which manages the farm that opened in 2006, said it will function to its maximum potential by 2010.
