Portimonense made use of the break afforded by the match-free League Cup final weekend- Benfica defeated Gil Vincente 2-1 to claim the silverware- by taking on Olhanense in a practice game on Saturday. Several players not usually in the starting eleven were tested and acquitted themselves well during the goalless draw at the Stadium of the Algarve. It would not be a surprise to see at least a couple of these back in action this Sunday afternoon at 4pm when Portimão take on fellow relegation-threatened Freamunde at the city’s refurbished municipal stadium in a clash which may well prove decisive in terms of the Algarve club’s professional future. Meanwhile, in the Third Division Serie F promotion play-off phase Farense suffered a surprise 3-0 home defeat to Quarteirense but remain seven points clear of those rivals as Lagoa won at home by the same score to all but secure their current status for the next playing period.
