Our last eight Finals matches took place on Wednesday, March 11 and Thursday, March 12 and were held at Pedras Bowling Club, watched by many spectators from all over the Algarve. Both days were beautiful, sunny and warm, perfect for the bowlers and spectators.
Each day had two matches in the morning and two in the afternoon.
On Wednesday morning, Chrissie and Steve McManus of Albufeira Bowls Club prevailed over Jenny and Paul Sutton of Floresta Bowls Club in the Australian Pairs – a very close game. Whilst Maggie Dance and Sheila Currall of Alvor Bowls Club also won in their Ladies Pairs match against Evelyn Oliver and Rene Berbridge of Albufeira Bowls Club – another very close match.
During the afternoon, Chrissie McManus of Albufeira Bowls Club won her Ladies Singles match against Debbie Stewart of Floresta Bowls Club, whilst George Humphreys and Geoff Hargreaves of Floresta prevailed over team-mates Paul Sutton and David Hibbert in the Men’s Pairs.
On Thursday, the ladies had a very good day with Jenny Sutton, Susan Kinane and Sheila Rapsey of Floresta winning their Triples match over team-mates George Humphreys, Geoff Hargreaves, and Ron Cane, whilst Ann and Jerry Parr of Albufeira Bowls Club prevailed in their Mixed Pairs match over Thea Tushuizen and Ian West of Pedras Bowls Club.
The afternoon treated us to Alan Hyatt, Mel Knickle, Paul Frampton and Jack Romano of Valverde Bowls Club winning over George Humphreys, David Hibbert, Paul Sutton and Sheila Rapsey of Floresta, and Steve McManus of Albufeira Bowls Club held on to win a very close match with Geoff Hargreaves of Floresta.
An excellent end to a very busy season for everyone, and many thanks go to Richard King of Albufeira Bowls Club for organising and co-ordinating the entire event.
So that is our season for this winter. We are now busy with our visiting teams, so I shall be quiet for a few weeks until we begin our Summer League season in May.
