West meets east for charity concert

A classical music performance by the Ten Hagen String Quartet is taking place on May 22 in the hall of  the Casa da Cultura Islâmica e Mediterrânica in Silves.

The concert is being promoted by the Rotary Club of Silves and is in aid of the Silves Rotary Scholarship Fund to help local students who would otherwise not be able to afford higher education.

The Ten Hagen String Quartet will perform music by Hayden, Schubert, Stravinsky and Mendelssohn.

The four Ten Hagen brothers and sisters from Westphalen, Germany, have studied with musical greats, won individual prizes and have performed as a quartet to excellent reviews. They are considered the up-and-coming group on the classical music scene.

The event begins with a reception in the Moorish garden at 6.30pm, followed by the concert.

The reception will include canapes and a choice of drinks, and a raffle will be held at intermission also to aid the Silves Rotary Scholarship Fund.

Donations for the project will be accepted at the door on the night of the concert or by Silves Rotary members who will distribute entrance passes before May 22.

The performance by the Ten Hagen String Quartet is supported by Silves Câmara, the Goethe Institute, the German Foreign Ministry and Rotary Club Silves.

Donations in lieu of entrance price are invited at time of booking or at the event.
