West End stars sparkle

The Bela Romão Croquet Country Club, near Fuseta, was the stunning venue for a night of music and fun centered around the BBC’s ‘Last Night of the Proms’. With the mystical backdrop of the hazy sunset silhouetting the golden beaches and tranquil islands of the Ria Formosa, this was the perfect setting for a special evening on Saturday, September 7.

As the 60 guests arrived, they were serenaded by the magical voice of mezzo soprano Katie Stevenson, who had flown in from the UK especially for the event.

The final highlight was when Katie Stevenson and Jean McGlynn led the diners in communal singing as the evening drew to a close. A raffle in aid of the Castro Marim Animal Shelter for Abandoned Dogs and Cats raised €355.

Lita Gale, proprietor of the Bela Romão Country Club, said: “Last year was a great success but tonight’s event has surpassed all our expectations, and much of that is down to the wonderful performances from our two young stars Katie and Jean.”
