“We’re here to help”: Algarve tourism board to clarify government support measures

The Algarve tourism board (RTA) and tourism association (ATA) have created a campaign that aims to promote and clarify the measures that were announced by the government to support companies as a response to the effects of the coronavirus outbreak.

Entitled ‘Yesterday, like today, we are here to help’, the campaign focuses mainly on providing support to small and medium-sized companies in the regional tourism sector.

Business owners can contact the tourism board directly via telephone or email or instead download a digital guide (click here), available in Portugal and English. The guide includes information on the credit lines available, the flexibility of tax obligations and the new lay-off regime.

Said Algarve tourism chief João Fernandes, “helping tourism sector companies in the Algarve is a priority”.

He added: “They are the ones who generate wealth and employment in the region. With these tough times ahead of us, we all know of how especially vulnerable the Algarve is, being a region that relies on tourism and where seasonality is an additional source of adversity.”

Fernandes also said that the region’s tourism authorities will do everything they can to “respond to the needs of the sector’s companies and workers”.
