Social Security is to see its 2013 budget reduced by more than €300 million despite the worsening economic crisis and increasing unemployment.
The government wants to reduce social assistance by €350,000, according to budget consolidation measures included the Strategic Budgetary Document (Documento de Estratégia Orçamental) for 2012-2016.
Former Minister for Social Security Bagão Felix says the budgetary reduction is too high in the face of the current crisis. Meanwhile, the government has started working on its 2013 State Budget, which foresees a 5% cut on last year’s in budget for all ministries.
