WEEKEND WEATHER – Wet welcome to spring

Spring will be arriving in Portugal at 10.45pm tonight (March 20), bringing lots of not so lovely rain.

According to forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), most of the country will be in for rain, thunder and temperatures ranging between cold and mild.

“We predict very cloudy skies, especially in the centre and south regions,” IPMA meteorologist Ricardo Tavares told Lusa news agency.

There could even be wind on higher grounds, and Serra da Estrela might even see some snow.

IPMA also predicts that maximum temperatures will vary between 16ºC in the south to 20ºC in the coastal areas of the north and 12-15ºC in inland areas.
