All of mainland Portugal is under ‘yellow alert’ until at least 6pm on Saturday (and in some cases until 6pm on Sunday) due to the extreme heat that is forecast.
Beautiful clear skies are predicted, while maximum temperatures are expected to reach or even top the 35ºC mark throughout most of the country on Saturday, even going as high as 39ºC in the northern district of Braga.
The scorching weather will continue on Sunday, albeit with less intensity along Portugal’s western coast.
The hot and dry weather will also increase the likelihood of forest fires, the national civil protection authority has warned.
