Portugal is on course for another scorching weekend, with maximum temperatures nearly topping 40ºC in some parts of the country and the sun due to shine through bright blue skies.
Starting this Friday, temperatures are due to start soaring into the 30ºCs. Thermometers in the Algarve are expected to reach around 32ºC/33ºC this weekend whilst inland region could see temperatures soar to nearly 40ºC.
Forecasters from the national sea and atmosphere institute (IPMA) expect the “hot and dry weather” to continue until at least Monday, with Saturday and Sunday being the hottest days.
IPMA explains the heatwave is caused by the arrival of a hot and dry air mass from the North of Africa.
