Weekend weather: Hot, sunny and bad for allergies

Portugal is in for a hot, sunny weekend even though it might rain again on Sunday in some parts of the country.

Tomorrow (May 5) will be sunny and hot, with maximum temperatures reaching 25ºC in Faro and Lisbon, 23ºC in Porto and 26ºC in the Alentejo.

Sunday will see temperatures increasing although periods of rain are forecast for much of the country, with the exception of the Algarve and some regions in the north.

Rain will be short-lived and is not expected to last beyond Monday.

Meantime, SPAIC (the Portuguese Society of Allergies and Clinical Immunology) is warning that pollen levels will be very high until next Thursday (May 10).

Different regions will be suffering from different kinds of pollen counts. For example, Trás-os-Montes and areas between the Douro and Minho will getting high levels from oak, pine and birch trees, while the Algarve and Alentejo will be registering higher counts in weeds, nettles and grasses.

People who are allergic may suffer from respiratory issues such as asthma and rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, and skin irritation.
