Civil protection authorities are warning people to take precautions against an intense heat wave, hitting Portugal today (Friday) and sending temperatures soaring to as high as 43ºC over the weekend.
Coastal areas will be cooler (up to 35%) while the country is braced on maximum fire alert.
Advice is for children and elderly people to stay hydrated and out of the sun, while thunderstorms could hit parts of the Alentejo and central Portugal by Sunday.
