Weekend weather: Go south! Beach weather continues in sunny Algarve as northern Portugal prepares for rain

Beachgoers hoping to hit the Algarve beaches this weekend will certainly not be disappointed with the weather, as clear skies and temperatures up to 28ºC are expected throughout the region – although they may drop a bit on Sunday (July 6).
According to the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), warm temperatures and blue skies are also expected in the Alentejo and inland areas of Portugal, but some northern areas of Portugal such as the Minho and Douro Litoral regions are expecting rain.
For this weekend, maximum temperatures of 26ºC are expected in Lisbon, Faro and Braga, 22ºC in Porto and Guarda, 32ºC in Évora, 31ºC in Castelo Branco, 30ºC in Beja, 28ºC in Bragança, 24ºC in Funchal (Madeira) and Angra do Heroísmo (Azores), and 23ºC in Ponta Delgada (Azores).
Although temperatures may drop a couple of degrees throughout the country on Sunday, they will most likely start rising again on Monday.
IPMA meteorologist Cristina Simões explained these unstable temperatures are normal for theseason.
“We are at the beginning of summer. This type of weather happens because there has been a lot of cloudiness and rain from western currents. Normally warmer weather is associated to dry and warm eastern winds, which are yet to arrive,” she said.
