A three-day fire warning has been issued by Portugal’s civil protection authority (ANEPC) due to the hot, dry and at times windy weather that is forecast this weekend throughout the country.
The risk of fires will range between “high and maximum” in the districts of Beja, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Évora, Faro, Guarda, Portalegre, Santarém, Setúbal, Vila Real and Viseu, says ANEPC.
Maximum temperatures are due to top the 30ºC mark in many parts of the country on Saturday, reaching 36ºC in some parts of the Algarve. The scorching temperatures are also forecast for Sunday and are due to continue into next week, although rain and thunder could make a return starting on Monday.
Humidity levels will be very low during the weekend and the wind will be blowing with “moderate” force, according to weather forecasts.
